Don't be afraid, come in, come in! But don't forget to follow some of my rules. 1.) Do not open the black ornate door on the first floor 2) don't mess with experiments in progress 3.) Please shut the door when training.... we don't need another incident with the window and last but not least 4.) Shut and lock the bathroom door before you go?

Getting dragged along he didn’t know what to say.

As the monkey girl lead the three into the forest, a bit deeper in the came to a tribal camp. The camp seemed as if it had been there for many years, adapting and embracing the changes of the ages as time passed. Quite a few of the homes actually being built into the trees.

Elesmirit watched as the girl took off into one of the cozy looking homes and came out with an older Monkey-man. Age clear in his appearance as a few wrinkled bags drooped under his eyes, slightly hunched back and using a walking stick to come towards them, his clothing indicating that he was the chief.

Hello fair travelers, I hear that you have come to visit our people? Though I cannot say that we welcome many visitors in….Hard times, but if you are here to help, then we shall welcome you happily." He spoke with a thick accent before noticing Drinaug behind the two of them, "I would advise you friend, not to drink the water, other Alkolk have drank the water here and become ill, unfortunately one of them was our shaman." He shakes his head sadly, "If you wish to see them you may, though it seems that it is only the Alkolk that are being effected, so if you thirst, you are welcome to drink the water. Though, seeing your clothes" he looked back at Elesmirit after looking at Ducaine,"You may wish to try your hand at healing them, you may have some success where we have failed.

He looked to Elesmirit. “This could be a chance to find a cure .”

Elesmirit looked  between the chief and Ducaine, then a now unnerved Drinaug. “This would…. Ducaine, would you go and collect a sample of the water for me? Use this?” She suggested as she took out a phial from behind her.

It was a small glass phial shaped like a dewdrop and had a raised design of an elegant fish wrapping around it, its tail-fin was the cork.

"I, on the other-hand, will take a quick look at the patients, hopefully I can lessen its effects or relieve them of it all together….Drinaug, play nice." She smiled, though there was a warning as well as suggestion in her eyes as it was given.

Heading out to the water he found a young one following him. Taking some of the water he looked at her. She had to be at least 6. “How are you little one?”

She cocked her head at him, a little monkey child, she looked up at him in awe and gave a big grin. She skittered towards him, examining the phial in his hands and smiling up at him. “Whn….” she started before mumbling, getting shy that he asked and talked to her.

Elesmirit let out a sigh of frustration, seeing Ducaine heading out towards the forest marsh. “He’s still coming with, he is still useful, and besides, not all Alkolk are as gruff as Reptin, usually they’re more lax~”

"I also can’t disobey what Silverwing says since the goddess put her in charge." Drinaug interrupted, then attempted to justify himself."Besides I think you’d feel the same way if someone was aiming to kill someone you loved or your family, that rage is what I feel for my people right now; where everyone is almost like family to you, you want to protect them."

He stopped and couldn’t even look at him. “Your an idiot.” Was all he said as he kept walking.

Elesmirit silently followed up behind him before matching pace, if not a half foot ahead, “I’m sorry….” She whispered to him as she felt her mind slip into her thoughts, beginning to wiggle her fingers in a meticulous but subconscious action while water orbs danced around her fingertips.

Drinaug scowled, following silently behind them.

Like he would even understand….

Moving faster. If he got into a fight he wasn’t going to show mercy.

After walking a ways into the forest, Elesmirit raised her hand in front of Ducaine. “Hold on….” she said as she looked around, listening to the leaves and area around them before a humanoid figure approached them, speaking in the traditional tongue. The figure itself seemed a bit small and hid behind a tree, poking out it’s head to speak.

"Hello, it’s alright, we mean no harm." Elesmirit spoke," We wish to speak with the tribes here to see if they’re okay.

"Dap(Dah)?" The figure spoke softly, coming out more into view showing to be a humanoid monkey, at least 5 feet high.

It was a small monkey girl who looked rather timid but at the mention of help, hurried over with a happy expression, “Come! Come!” she spoke with an accent, grabbing for Elesmirit’s and Ducaine’s hands, since they were the closest.

Getting dragged along he didn’t know what to say.

HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE

Let’s say it’s 6.15pm and you’re going home (alone of course), after an unusually hard day on the job. You’re really tired, upset and frustrated. Suddenly you start experiencing severe pain in your chest that starts to drag out into your arm and up into your jaw. You are only about five miles from the hospital nearest your home. Unfortunately you don’t know if you’ll be able to make it that far. You have been trained in CPR, but the guy that taught the course did not tell you how to perform it on yourself..!!

NOW HOW TO SURVIVE A HEART ATTACK WHEN ALONE…

Since many people are alone when they suffer a heart attack, without help, the person whose heart is beating improperly and who begins to feel faint, has only about 10 seconds left before losing consciousness.

However, these victims can help themselves by coughing repeatedly and very vigorously.

A deep breath should be taken before each cough, and the cough must be deep and prolonged, as when producing sputum from deep inside the chest.

A breath and a cough must be repeated about every two seconds without let-up until help arrives, or until the heart is felt to be beating normally again.

Deep breaths get oxygen into the lungs and coughing movements squeeze the heart and keep the blood circulating.

The squeezing pressure on the heart also helps it regain normal rhythm. In this way, heart attack victims can perhaps buy precious time to get themselves to a phone and dial 911.

also:  heart attack symptoms for women/trans men/dfab people are often different than the ones listed here!  it’s more common for them to have jaw, neck, arm, stomach, or back pain, and they tend to experience more of an uncomfortable squeezing or fullness in the chest rather than crushing pain.  other more common symptoms include heart palpitations, fatigue, shortness of breath, sweating, and nausea.  these symptoms are often overlooked by those experiencing a heart attack because they deviate so much from the more well-known symptoms, often leading them to delay treatment and potentially put their life at further risk.  make sure you know these facts in case you or a loved one will need them in the future!

This was meant to be a quick warm up, but it turned into a comic that I’ve wanted to draw for a while. This is something that is extremely important to me, and I appreciate it if you read it.

A while ago, I heard a story that broke my heart. A family went a cat shelter to adopt. The daughter fell in love with a 3-legged cat. The father straight up said “absolutely not”. Because he was missing a leg. That cat was that close to having a family that loved him, but the missing leg held him back. Why?!

Many people have the initial instinct of “nope” when they see an imperfect animal. I get it, but less-adoptable does NOT mean less loveable. 9 out of 10 people will choose a kitten over an adult cat. And those 10% that would get an adult cat often overlook “different” animals.

All I want people to do is be open to the idea of having a “different” pet in their lives. Choose the pet that you fall in love with, but at least give all of them a fair shot at winning your heart.

Don’t dismiss them, they deserve a loving home just as much as any other cat. They still purr, they still love a warm lap, they still play, they still love you. Trust me, next time you are in the market for a new kitty, just go over to that one cat that’s missing an eye and see what he’s all about!

Let me tell to you a thing.

This is Lenore. I first saw her in a little cage at the Petco I frequent (I used to take my parents’ dog in for puppy play time), and she looked like the grouchiest, old, crotchety cat in the world, and I fell instantly in love. She was cranky, she was anti-social, hanging out at the back of her cage. Her fur was matted because she wouldn’t let the groomers near her.

She was perfect.

But I didn’t have a place for her. I wasn’t living in my own space yet, and where I was, I wasn’t allowed cats. So I pressed my face to the bars of her cage and I promised that if no one had adopted her by the time I’d bought a house, I would come back for her.

I visited her every week for over six months while I looked for a house. At one point, they had to just shave her entire rear-end because the mats or fur were so bad. They told me she clawed the heck outta the groomer that did it, screamed the entire time, and spent the next two days growling at anyone that came near the cage.

A couple of weeks later, I closed on my house. I went back and I got an employee, and I said: “That one. I need that cat.”

They got the paperwork and the lady who ran the rescue that was bringing the cats in told me that Lenore (at the time, Lila) was 8 years old, had been owned by an elderly lady who had died, and brought in to a different rescue, who’d had her for six months on top of the time I’d been seeing her at Petco.

This kitty had been living in a 3x3’ cube for over a YEAR because she was older and “less adoptable.”

I signed the paperwork, put her in a cat carrier, and drove her to my new home. I had pretty much nothing; a bed, an old couch, a couple of bookcases, and a tank of mice I called “Cat TV”. I let her out of the carrier and onto my bed, and I told her “I told you I would come back for you when I had a place. It’s not much, but it’s yours too now.”

Lenore spent the next three days straight purring non-stop. She followed me around the house purring. Sat next to me purring. Slept next to me purring. Leaning into every touch, purring, purring, always purring. She still purrs if you so much as think about petting her. She’s amazing, and I love her.

So, you know, if you’re thinking about adopting, and you see a beast that others consider “less adoptable,” think about Lenore.
